As sleep takes hold, and the weekend takes its leave, he thinks of the unbreakable bonds of friendship that hold a lifetime of memories.
Songs were sung and truths shared.
The past remembered, yet no tears shed. Their time has been, will come again, but for now, laughter banishes them completely.
A laughter so pure it shakes the very gates of time. For those brief few days, they are immortal.
His friends are with him, and that’s all he’s ever needed.
He smiles, closes his eyes, and for the first time in a long time, the nightmares leave him be.
So, this was me last weekend. I went to the north of Scotland to stay in a lodge with 14 of my best friends. We go away together every two years, primarily to tie in with the first weekend of The World Cup or European Championship football tournaments, but really just to catch up and enjoy each others company. This year was no different. It was a great time (apart from the Scotland game!) and I think we’ll all finally be sobered up again in time for our Christmas night out!
I’ve known most of these guys for over 40 years and have written about them previously. They half jokingly said I should write about our trip and so here we are.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks for reading. Until next time.
Rather tasty and satisfying, like a very nice chocolate bar. Thanks.
Lovely, Dan. It's so amazing that you still have such a close group of friends and that you can all reinforce those bonds with the tradition of meeting up at regular intervals. Sounds great, and boozy ;)
These days, a big night out would take me half a year to recover haha.
