Oh Misery! But darkness is your friend... and 'if you want it darker' listen to Cohen while writing :D

Fun fact, I only ever saw "this", never read it. I remember it being good, checking my rating on IMDB I rated it a 7 back then.

Thanks very much Alexander 🙏

Yeah, as I mentioned in a comment above, I prefer the movie to the book. Which is a rare thing with King 🤔

King himself, did he like it? I know he doesn't like The Shining. People say Pet Cemetary is better than the book. It's been too long, I don't remember. Also, I had to correct some typos in that first comment, don't know what happened there 😅

King was happy with the adaptation of Misery. He had worked with Rob Reiner, the director, before on Stand by Me and knew William Goldman as one of the top screenwriters in the business so it was always going to be good

I’m writing an article on Pet Sematary just now. The book and movies. The novel is one of his bleakest and the 1989 movie, which I thought was scary at the time, is absolute tosh. But enjoyable tosh 😁. I don’t care so much for the new adaptations

I quite like The Shining movie but it’s not an adaptation of the novel. It’s something else entirely 🤔

Stand By Me, another good one! Looking forward to your Pet Semetary article!

And yes, remakes are mostly rubbish. Hmm.. are there any remakes that are better than the original? I wonder...

Squirmingly good, Dan. "the broken bones in my legs grind together." 🤢 Brilliant!

Yeah, that line came from personal experience after my car crash all those years ago. Still makes me queasy thinking about it 😁

I did wonder … 😬😬 I can imagine it's not a pleasant thought.

If a doctor ever says to you, “We’re just going to move your foot back into position” you know what comes next won’t be pleasant 😆

From memory, in the film adaption Kathy Bates smashes his legs with a hammer, but in the book, doesn't she chop his feet off with an axe? I read it so long ago ... but I remember finding it seriously dark and difficult to read compared to SK's usual paranormal premises.

As for your story, I think a lot of people fear the discomfort and restriction of casts and bandages — you've nicely tapped into that.

Thanks very much Graeme 🙏

You’re spot on with the difference between book and film. However, in the book she also cauterised the leg with a blow torch after chopping off the foot. Nasty stuff!

The running over the policeman with the lawnmower was also pretty gnarly.

I’m writing articles on some of Kings books and comparing them to the adaptations. Misery is one where I think the movie is better. Like you say, the novel is too much. Even for me!

Yeah, I did think twice about publishing this one and I don’t do that very often 🤔
