Always good to write with the senses. I'm sure you don't need luck but I cheer you on, Dan! Go, go, sight, taste, touch, smell and sound out the other four!
The poignant lines "He bathed in the river. / Dark blood flowed downstream." says it all. The tenderness in taking in the son's baby smell is so palpable.
Oh wow, Daniel, loved this story! And your idea for writing additional stories sounds like such fun! I wish you luck with the remaining stories. Thank you as always for mentioning me.
Such strong atmosphere in so few words; lovely work, Daniel! 50 words is so restrictive that I've yet to move beyond 100. But you've really done something great here—makes me kinda want to try too!
I really appreciate your kind feedback. I’ve seen some quite dismissive takes on micro fiction, saying it’s not proper story telling, which I obviously completely disagree with. It’s tough trying to tell a story which such limitations, but that’s also what I think makes them so worthwhile, because you have to work hard to create a world in 50 words. You should definitely give it a go! 👍🏼
I’ve got another 3 coming this week, starting with tonight, so hope you enjoy them too 🙂
People who think micro-fiction is cheap clearly have never tried to write it themselves. I think they’d find it far more challenging than they’d expect…
And I’ll be on the lookout for those new stories tonight!
Daniel, you really moved me. Of course you can't know why, you don't know me, but you have given me an answer that I have been in search of myself. Thank you.

Thanks very much Alexander 🙏
I’ll give it my best shot 😁

Thanks very much, Nadia. I’m so glad you liked the story 🙏
For some reason this story made me think of the show See, where people can't see and experience each other through smell and touch.
That show has been recommended to me by so many people and I’ve never got around to watching it. I’ll need to make an extra effort now 👍🏼🙂
It is such a wonderful show--poetic, beautiful, touching, poignant. You will love.
Ah, yes, the smell in a loved ones hair. Something I know well.
This reads like the last scene of an epic novel. Perfect last line.
Thanks very much K.C. 🙏

Yeah, one story just didn’t seem enough for such a great prompt 🙂👍🏼

You have a knack for tugging my heart string and with few choice images too. Great job Daniel!
Thanks very much Ika 🙏
What a lovely image to go with the charming, moving story. As always, I'm so impressed how you pack so much into so few words.
Go go go with the others!
Thanks very much, Nathan 🙏
Pretty much got another 2 of them written today so I’m getting there! 😁
Nicely done!
A very moving piece in only 50 words. I love this, Dan!
Thanks very much, Caro 🙏
I’m so glad you liked it as it’s one of the very few stories that I got emotional about whilst writing, and I’m not entirely sure why 🤔
However, I’m glad I was able to pass that on through the story. As always your kind words are much appreciated 🙂
Really like this. Short and sweet. A story after Hemingway's own heart.
Thanks very much David 🙏

Thank you very much, Michael for such a lovely message 👍🏼
I’m so glad you had that emotional connection to the story. I can ask for nothing more 🙏
Wow 👏 👏👏🙌
Thanks very much Jason 🙏
