i can really relate to this. some places have a smell and it takes me right to my grandparent's house when i was a child. the same with a certain delicate clock chime...im right back there. the smell of crispy bacon... right back to breakfasts which were the only meal grandad could cook

Thanks Nick 🙏

Yeah, it can be the simplest thing that hits you out of nowhere and takes you right back. Whole thing was very odd but strangely comforting 🤔🙂

Thanks Hanna. Ah, well there we go. You’ll know it’s got such a distinctive smell that you’d recognise it anywhere. Really was the strangest thing. Hopefully brought back some nice memories for you too 👍🏼🙂

This is a beautiful story Daniel! Have had a similar experience visiting my parents who live in my grandfathers old house who passed many years ago. He was a big smoker and occasionally I get a tiny whiff of that smell, even though the house was completely refurbed. It's a lovely comfort!

Thanks very much Chris 🙏

Yeah, it was a strange one. I’m sure there’s a logical explanation but, like you say, if it brings comfort then that’s enough for me 👍🏼

I have my grandpa's pipes sitting next to me. Sometimes, when I need comforting, I'll smell the bowl and he's right there beside me.

I’m glad to hear it, Sean. Maybe we all contain just enough magic to get us where we need to be, at the exact moment when we need it most 👍🏼

Sounds and smells that evoke specific memories, yes, quite powerful a sensation!

And the best horror movie of all time? I have only one thing to say... but you know what I'm going to say.

How lovely, touched with the sadness of nostalgia. I’ve experienced “visits” and while I don’t really know what they are, I choose to be warmed by them.

Thanks very much Liz 🙏

I found it comforting but still strange. It’s not the first time something like this has happened and I’m sure it won’t be the last 🙂

Really agree with your postscript thoughts, Dan.

Thanks for sharing the true story and your thoughts behind it. I've never had anything like this happen to me, but it'd certainly make me pause and consider.

Thanks very much Nathan 🙏

It was a very strange experience but maybe just my mind playing tricks on me. Who knows 🤷‍♂️🤔

But, either way, all these things keep giving me ideas for stories if nothing else 😁
